WHY A WORK - BASED LEARNING INITIATIVE COMMUNITY?

  • The most recent U.S. disability employment statistics show that only 20 percent of people with disabilities are participating in the workforce.

  • Nearly 73% of people with intellectual disabilities reported that their condition affected their career choice and only 34% of adults with ID aged 21-64 are employed.

  • An approximately equal number of adults with ID aged 21-64 work in a sheltered setting, are not full time and earn less than the minimum wage.

  • Regardless of the setting in which they work, almost all adults with ID are underemployed.

    As of February 2021 Disability Employment Statistics Ages 16 years and over.

Students practice Developmental Behavior Techniques - (DBT) Skills that foster social emotional confidence, emotional regulation, and emotion regulation and acceptance

Students practice communication skills to improve understanding and listening techniques, applying the 7 learned unique tips for effective communication

Students learn the importance of choosing their circle of influence - the what, why and how of choosing appropriate relationships

Students learn and practice Atomic Habits, the book written by author James Clear who writes about the tiny changes that create remarkable results

Students learn the Four Agreements, written by author Don Miquel Ruiz and how understanding the agreements are essential to understanding ourselves and others

Students learn how to think and grow rich applying concepts from Napoleon Hill’s book Think and Grow Rich and learn that reprograming the mind is possible based on the teachings of Joe Dispenza
